Bio
Joy Shechter (96’) is a pianist and composer based in Amsterdam. After obtaining his degree in Film Composition from Berklee College of Music, he found his creative path in Amsterdam's vibrant scene of jazz and improvised music. He completed a master's degree in Jazz Performance at the Conservatorium Van Amsterdam and has been contributing to the city's musical ecosystem ever since, both as a leader and as a sideman.
Among other bands, Joy is a member of the Micheal Murray's Colourfields, which won the 1st place at the Keep An Eye - The Records (’24) competition . He is also a member of the Marios Charalampous Quartet which received the 2nd prize at the International Keep An Eye Award ('23)
Joy has played in several countries over 3 continents, including the USA, Canada, Portugal, Greece, Israel and the Netherlands. He plays with musicians such as Dominic Seldis, Noah Preminger, Jasper Blom and Yoran Vroom.
Joy is the bandleader of band Second Naivety, which is due to release its first album First Fruit by the end of 2024.
Alongside his career as a performer, Joy is also involved in musically-oriented social outreach projects, such as the Bikurim School of the Art for which he is a founding member, and the El Sistema- inspired project Sulamot - Music for Social Change.
