Second Naivety

Joy Shechter Piano, Compositions

River Adomeit Double Bass

Magnus Austad Drums

The group was formed in early 2023, partly as an artistic refuge for Joy to channel his fears and emotions towards the judicial coup d’état that emerged around this time in Israel, his place of birth. Much of the material was composed during the first year of political instability and was charged further by the events of October 7th and the horrific war in Gaza which followed.

The music of the band reflects the anger, sadness, and confusion that coexist within the soul of anyone who cares for this place and its people - Palestinians and Israelis alike - and adds a glimpse of hope and faith in humanity, as rare as they are crucial in our part of the world.

Musically, the group is rooted in simple compositions, non-apologetic interplay, and a wide use of dynamics - sometimes extensive, other times minimal. Humor, drama, and the grotesque appear as spices, always serving the emotional message.

Second Naivety released their debut EP, First Fruits,  in December 2024, reflecting the experience of an expatriate watching their homeland sink into corruption and disillusionment. They have performed in venues such as Bimhuis Café, Ramses Shaffy Huis, Splendor, and Peppi Guggenheim (Berlin).
